WORLD VISION IN KENYA

Makueni Food Distribution

World Vision is changing the face of hunger in Kenya by implementing long-term sustainable strategies to significantly decrease food security in the region. The key to reducing hunger is by defeating the root and systematic causes which include: poverty, inadequate food storage, and civil unrest. Poverty prevents farmers from purchasing seeds and livestock, inadequate food storage allows surplus to be destroyed by inclement weather, and finally, civil unrest destabilizes families and their food production. World Vision is taking steps to reduce these obstacles by:

  • Implementing food for work initiatives which support the building of irrigation ditches, tree-nurseries, and other community assets.
  • Improving access to food for vulnerable households.
  • Helping local shopkeepers through food and cash voucher programs.
  • Distributing food commodities to meet the basic needs of the overwhelming number of refugees in Kenya
